John Sheppard's future is bright and promising. He is married to a beautiful woman, lives in an upper-class suburb of Detroit, and enjoys a stable but challenging job. Then one day his boss calls him into his office to announce that he is being laid off. Within seconds, John goes from favored employee to unemployed victim of corporate downsizing. On the terrifying drive home from his former workplace, John gets carjacked, mugged, and stranded in a Dumpster, an experience that leads to repeated panic attacks in the months that follow.
