All areas of nursing practice are entering what promises to be one of the most exciting,

most fruitful, and most rewarding periods in the history of nursing. There is the stimulus

of new knowledge relating to physical and emotional aspects of the human condition.

Understanding and assimilation of this knowledge by nurses, demonstrated through

competent clinical practice, has resulted in the increasing recognition of the role of the

nurse in the delivery of health care.
