Summer is a novel written by author Edith Wharton and originally published in 1917. The story, set in New England, details the sexual awakening of protagonist, Charity Royall and the crual treatment towards her by her father as a child. Although this title had mild popularity when originally published, it has seen a resurgence in popularity since the 1960's and its plot similiarities have often been compared to Ethan Frome.
