Peter Conrad同一个题材就那么几种疾病写了一辈子也挺不容易的…虽然重复的论述比较多，医学社会学的理论也不多（或许本来就没多少），和其他的交叉（比如身体和STS都没怎么提）也不够…但作为晚期对自己一个学术的总结还是很全面具体、有洞见并且好用的。

极权来自定义者，引出医学是一种社会控制的方式，这些提法印象深刻。尽管全书大部分在说车轱辘话，但到自己尝试写社科论文时发现连车轱辘话都说不出来，所以就这一点还是可以服气的……

印象比较深的是medicalization of unferperformace以及对男性身体与年龄的医疗化分析。现代社会对于人类身体和精神领域的医疗化是医疗界，市场和主体一同参与共谋的过程,enhancement可以提升个体竞争力，但当每个人都可得到的时候 enhancement就创造了一种必须的市场。而医疗化的操作是通过normalization来完成。在社会准则面前，个体选择medicalization是一种消极的应对，因为你无力改变，只有顺从。
