a very strange story. its narrative is almost modern (I can feel Nabokov building his own on it), but in a vexing, difficult-to-read kind of way (/blush). our hero is timid, indecisive, not likeable, he met his double, who stole his identity. our hero was banished. the story has a nightmarish quality. reality and fantasy all blurred.
